During the winter solstice on December 22, daylight will only last 10 hours and 34 minutes from sunrise to sunset.
What is the winter solstice?
The winter solstice marks the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere and the first day of summer in the southern hemisphere. Those of us in the Northern Hemisphere will experience the shortest and darkest day of the year as the North Pole is furthest from the Sun at an angle of -23.4 degrees.
How is the Winter Season in the UAE?
Winters in the UAE are generally mild, with an average daytime temperature of 25°C early in the winter season and night-time temperatures along the coast ranging from 12°C to 15°C. Inland, particularly in mountain areas, winter temperatures can drop to 5°C overnight.
By the end of the season, temperatures will rise again and reach highs of 32 degrees Celsius.
This week the lowest predicted temperature is 18°C in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The coldest predicted temperature is 13°C in Umm Al Quwain.
During the winter season, the UAE sometimes experiences heavy rainfall. It has already rained heavily in some cities, especially in the region around Fujairah. Rainfall of more than 80 mm is expected in the following weeks.
Is there Snow in the UAE?
Unfortunately, although Dubai would certainly look wonderful in the snow, snow here only falls at higher elevations in the mountains. No snow has yet been spotted on the coast.
